What is VEU Program?
The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program, formerly VEET Scheme, helps Victorian households and businesses reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint by allowing them to access discounted energy-efficient products and upgrades, in most cases free. Incentive and discounts received by eligible Victorians vary depending on market activity.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) develops the Regulations and Acts associated with the VEU Program. The Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Act 2007 establishes the Victorian Energy Upgrades program. The VEET Act commenced on 1 January 2009 and provides for the VEU Program to operate to the end of 2029.
The VEU Program is administrated by Essential Services Commission (ESC), which are an independent regulator that promotes the long-term interests of Victorian consumers with respect to the price, quality and reliability of essential services.
How does it work?
-
1
Households and business receive free or discounted energy upgrades through the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program.
-
2
Every upgrade allows Accredited Provides like 60 Shades to generate Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs).
-
3
Each certificate represents one tonne of greenhouse gas prevented from entering our atmosphere.
-
4
Accredited Providers then sell these certificates to energy retailers.
-
5
The certificates are then surrendered to the government by energy retailers to meet their yearly targets set out by the program.
